Mr. Oelschlaeger holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois and a Masters of Science Degree in Industrial Technology of Plastics from Illinois State University at Normal, Illinois. He worked for the Economist Dr. Walter McMahon who at the time was an Economic Advisor to then President Gerald Ford. After earning his Masters, he worked for Buick Motor Division of General Motors Corporation in a number of positions from Process Engineer, Welding and Assembly Engineer for Sheet Metal Fabrication and Plastics, and Computer Operations Manager for Buick Plastics.
Joining Air Products & Chemicals Inc., as a Senior Research Engineer he worked on formulations of Polyvinyl Chloride Plastics leading to break through in thin wall structure applications, think lawn furniture. He was first to successfully formulate Polyvinyl Alcohol for extruded blown film, injection molding and blow molding.
In 1985, Mr. Oelschlaeger founded Oeltec Industries, Inc., in Allentown, Pennsylvania to produce water-soluble polymers for specific applications for the medical industry.
Two years later, he joined Agri-Tech Industries, Inc., conducting breakthrough research in conjunction with the U.S.D.A. research facility in Peoria, Illinois in the field of Biodegradable Plastics. He developed manufacturing technology to mass produce biodegradable polymers and compounds. He was later promoted to Director of Product Development.
In 1988 he and three partners founded Fully Compounded Industries, Inc., in Decatur, Illinois, where he served as Vice President of Engineering and Manufacturing. The company produced proprietary biodegradable plastics compounds for applications ranging from yard waste bags, flower pots, high-end shopping bags to shampoo bottles. Peter played a key role when Fully Compounded Plastics was one of the first companies to complete an international technology transfer to the Peoples' Republic of China.
After selling the company, he became Plant Manager of Adell Compounding, Inc., of Denham Springs, Louisiana a specialty plastics compounder serving the chemical industry.
He left industry for teaching in 1996. In 1997, he joined the faculty of Glen Oaks High School as their Drafting teacher. The following year he became the No.2 Facilitator of the Environmental and Architectural Design Magnet program. In 2002, he was appointed Lead Facilitator. Two years later, he filled the position he now holds a Baton Rouge Magnet High School.
Teaching seven classes in six periods, he also sponsors the Mechanical Technical Student Association, the Photography Club, and Advises the Solar Car Team. In 2005, he earned industry-based certification from the American Design and Drafting Association. In 2007, he achieved Nation Board Certified Teacher, the highest level of certification available to teachers.
He has been married for over 24 years and has one son.
He loves his job.
We do worry though, he still plays with trains.
