Baton Rouge High is proud to announce the 2009-2010 Student of the Year, Leyla Mocan. Leyla is the 2009-2010 Beta club President and is on the Mu Alpha Theeta Exceutive Board. Some of her numerous awards include: National Merit Semi-Finalist, AP Scholar with Honors, National Honor Society, and District Rally in two subjects. Leyla is a memeber of the Mu Alpha Theta, Beta, Amnesty International, and National Honor Society Clubs. In the community Leyla helps as a LEAP Teaching Intern, nursing home volunteer, and she is also a Dufrocq Elementary Aftercare volunteer.
In her spare time, Leyla enjoys playing the piano, painting, and skiing. She speaks Turkish and has taken 3 years of Spanish and 1 year of Arabic and French each. 
She would like to major in Economics and minor in Mathematics. After graduate school she inspires to get her Ph. D.

Congratulations to Ms. Greer who was named one of three East Baton Rouge Schools' 2009 Principals of the Year!

Peter Oelschlaeger and students Joey LeBlanc and Simon Shirazi created a solar car to compete in the national cross-country race in July, 2009!  The car requires 200 pounds of solar panels and can reach speeds of 60 miles per hour.  It's costs about $8,000 so far, but will require another $6,000 work.  They are raising money to help pay for the car, as well as travel expenses.

Baton Rouge High students; Zach Redpath, Chad Binder and Ross Dixon won second place in the nation for high schools in C-SPAN's StudentCam 2009 competition!
