Choral Studies

The BRMHS Department of Choral Studies offers valuable, opportunities through fine choral singing, solo vocal literature, thorough knowledge of fundamental skills, indepth knowledge of music theory, and the art of english handbell ringing. Robbie Giroir, Director of BRMHS Choral Studies, has held this post for over twenty years. In this academic term, the program boasts over seventy-five choristers. The Honor Chorale, principle choral ensemble of fourty auditioned choristers, is preparing for another productive year. Included are the Fall and Spring Concerts held in the Chapel of St.Alban's on the LSU Campus, and the annual formal Candlelight Concert, traditionally held in the historic Cathedral Church of St. Joseph in downtown Baton Rouge.
These choirs have performed on numerous occasions in the Baton Rouge area. The Honor Chorale and Festival Singers have also had the distinction of performing on several occasions in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. The Festival Singers have also traveled abroad and were featured in a European tour of the United Kingdom where solo choral performances were given at Winchester Cathedral, St.Paul's Cathedral (London), Ely Cathedral, and the World War II. Memorial Chapel (Ely). The Festival Singers will also be traveling abroad this spring (2005) on a concert tour of Germany and Austria. Through competitive auditions, many BRMHS choristers are chosen for All State and All District Honor Choirs.
Under the tenure of Giroir, the Department of Choral Studies has sung over twenty major choral works by noted composers and has produced over fifteen major musical productions on the BRMHS stage. The BRMHS choirs have earned consistent superior sweepstakes honors at district, state, and national levels of competition and are well noted for the quality of choral literature and performances. Many BRMHS Choristers have gone on to professional performing and music education careers that include Broadway and University Professors. We are indeed proud of our department and particularly our choristers for their hard work and passion to make music at the loftiest levels that enrich and change lives.
