Algebra II Syllabus

A. Supplies
Binders, calculators, and pencils are to be brought to class every class period. You will have a textbook that is kept at home, use of a textbook in class and access to an on-line textbook.
Your binder should be divided accordingly. The first section should be for notes from class. The second section is for homework assignments.
B. Grades
You will receive at least one grade per week. I will post grades to Blackboard (blackboard.ebrpss.k12.la.us). HOWEVER, THE GRADES RECORDED IN MY ROLLBOOK ARE OFFICIAL AND ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE ONCE THEY ARE MARKED.
The grading scale used is as follows:
90 100 A
80 89 B
70 79 C
60 69 D
Below 60 F
Points will be assigned in the following manner.
1. Random homework checks Usually 10 pts. per section
2. Quizzes and Chapter Tests Points will vary
NOTE: CHEATING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND A SCORE OF 0 WILL BE ASSESSED TO THE ASSIGNMENT AND THE SCHOOL HONESTY POLICY WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
C. Class Policies
1. No eating will be allowed in class.
2. No types of headgear (caps, bandanas, do-rags, etc.) will be allowed in class, unless part of a religious observance.
3. ONLY LOOSELEAF PAPER WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR WORK TURNED IN. Assignments on paper that has been torn out of a spiral notebook WILL NOT be accepted and a grade of zero will be assigned. Neatness is essential.
4. ALL TESTS AND HOMEWORK MUST BE IN PENCIL. Points will be deducted for work done in pen. If you do not have pencil, a minimal charge of $.05 will be charged to purchase one.
5. Tests must be handed in when the bell rings or when the teacher calls for them. Tests are constructed in order for you to finish in a timely manner.
6. Homework must be done in your notebook, in the order in which it was assigned.
7. Make-up tests must be taken within two class period following an absence. No exceptions, unless cleared with me. IT IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY TO REMEMBER THAT YOU NEED TO TAKE A TEST. IT IS YOURS. So, if you dont let me know and the two class periods pass, then a grade of zero 0 will be assigned. Homework will be handled in the same manner. If you are absent when I check homework assignments, then it is your responsibility to show me your homework within two class period. If not, a grade of zero will be assigned.
It is very important to use the buddy system to acquire information about what happened in class. The week at-a-glance will be posted each Friday for the next week on Blackboard. In addition, homework will be posted weekly on the internet on blackboard.ebrpss.k12.la.us for your convenience. If you do not have a computer at home, you can use one in the library or in class. I will accept NO excuses.
8. You MUST show steps for homework and on tests (i.e., at least writing the original problem from the book and solving). NO credit will be given for answers only or correct answers with wrong procedure. Some logical effort must be shown for partial credit.
D. Tardies
Tardies are unacceptable in my class. If you are late for my class, you will have to get an admit slip to my class.
E. Homework and Test Philosophy
Homework is essential in a math class and will be assigned almost every class period. Not doing homework could be detrimental to your grade.
Tests will be representative of topics covered in class and the application of those topics.
F. Chapters to be Covered
My purpose is for EVERYONE to gain an understanding of the concepts, which means that we could cover the material quickly or we can cover it a slower pace. This will be determined by the needs of the class. (A slower pace does not mean we will spend a week on a topic.) The pace will be steady.
BE FOREWARNED! First semester is a primary review of Algebra 1 material and second semester is NEW, pre-Advanced math material. It would be wise to establish a good work ethic early in order to get the knowledge and grade you desire to be successful in this and future math classes.
G. Extra Credit
Extra credit will NOT be given. I provide enough opportunities throughout the year for you to be successful.
This will be a challenging year and I am your resource to be successful.
